Nottingham Playhouse, England, 2008
D.H. Lawrence was born in Nottingham and he attended Nottingham High School and
Nottingham University College.
It is, therefore, very fitting that a concert version of Scandalous! was presented at the Nottingham Playhouse in June 2008.
With a cast of 18 and an 8-piece orchestra, the show was extremely well received. According to many, it was the best production of its kind to be staged at the Playhouse.
The authors wish to thank Giles Croft, artistic director of Nottingham Playhouse, for opening the door to us and making this possible.
D.H. Lawrence and Frieda von Richtofen were brilliantly played by Anthony Flaum and Abbey Addams and wonderful perfomances were given by a talented supporting cast.
The production was directed by Keith Thomas and musical direction was by Glyn Bailey.
The orchestra was conducted by John Morton.
Getting a new musical on the map is like climbing Mount Everest. Scandalous! was not at the summit, but thanks to The Nottingham Playhouse it was well beyond Base Camp!
"Wonderful! Exciting‚ thought-provoking.
A step forward in staged musicals."
CAROL FOOTE
"The D.H. Lawrence story will always be full of controversy
and to put it to music is inspired. The audience loved it."
JOHN HOLMES, BBC Radio Nottingham Celebrity
"A very polished and gripping performance.
I loved the way the show pulled no punches
and let rip with vulgarity in a brilliantly judged way,
not just for the sake of it.
The hilarious, show-stopping song 'Lady Chatterley's Lover '
is still in my head."
PAUL WILLIAMSON, Nottingham Evening Post
"... I am sure Scandalous! is going to be a great success."
ALAN SILLITOE, Novelist
"Wonderful songs and musical arrangements,
with a story-line that grips you all the way.
A great way to get to know D.H. Lawrence."
FRANKIE HOLMES, Theatre and TV comedy star
