After seeing the New Orleans production of Scandalous!, producer and director Wes Payne approached the authors with an exciting plan to take the show to Broadway and the West End.
Following the signing of an option agreement with Payne, the authors are very optimistic about the future of the show.
Wes Payne holds graduate degrees from Kansas University (MA in theatre) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (MFA in directing/acting).
He has taught at Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas and Rockhurst College in Kansas City.
His artistic credits include work as an actor, singer, director and scenic/lighting designer.
Three of his scenic designs received recommendations from the Joseph Jefferson Awards committee in Chicago.
Wes’ career as a theatre producer began with the management of not-for-profit theatres in Colorado and Chicago.
He became a commercial producer in the 1980’s, teaming up with current Broadway producer Michael Leavitt to form the Payne Leavitt Group. Together they operated Chicago’s Apollo Theatre Center and the Ivanhoe Theatre.
The Payne Leavitt Group produced at those theatres, as well as other venues in the Chicago area. Wes also served on the board of the League of Chicago Theatres.
After moving to New Orleans in 1991, Wes took the position of Vice President of Entertainment/Cruise Programmes for the Delta Queen Steamboat Co.
During the following twenty years he wrote and directed shows for vessels on both coasts, Hawaii, and America’s inland river systems.
Wes now works as a freelance writer, producer and theatre consultant.
